Merry Christmas! It is with great pleasure that we are sending our CCP shareholders the fifth Christmas Newsletter following the re-opening of the Foresters Arms as a Community Pub in December 2011.
It is due to you maintaining your investment in the Coverdale Community Pub Ltd that keeps the buildings of the Foresters Arms in good shape so that the tenants can run their business from there. This year we have been fortunate that there have been minimal repairs to the roof and some radiator work only. During this year we have seen the first tenants of our Community pub be replaced by our second tenants.
Keith and Lesley have been very busy settling in and supporting the usual pub activities, including the darts and domino teams, music and quiz nights. There have also been various fundraising activities for different charities.
Here is their Christmas newsletter:
"Season's Greetings from the Foresters How time fliesl lt is now over four months since we took over, and we are starting to feel as if we now belong. We have great news for you on a few fronts which we are pleased to pass on to you.
Firstly, we are very proud to announce that we are now Cask Marque accredited. The first time the pub has had this accolade. You have always enjoyed great cask beer at the pub, however it is now official. The plaque should be up before Christmas. Well done Tom, as he has also passed accreditation. We will continue our policy of supporting local breweries and bringing you the best quality beer possible.
We are also very pleased to announce the arrival of our new chef Jon Foster. Jon joins us from The Blue Lion at East Witton, which is a bit of a coup. We are looking forward to the food offering stepping up a level as Jon introduces something a little special to the menu, although the well-loved standards will of course remain. Welcome to the team Jon.
We have also decided to theme our beautiful intimate dining room. lt will now be known as 'The Owl Room". As suggested the room features a number of owls, the centrepiece being an original painting by internationally renowned local artist, Ric Duffield, from Preston under Scar. Should you get the chance, feel free to pop in and see what a fantastic atmosphere we have created. An owl themed Christmas tree? Oh yes. With the candles lit and with the new menu you will be sure of a very enjoyable evening.
As you read this, Mike Hammond has delivered the Christmas trees, and they are in place and dressed. We think you will like the results. We will be launching our Christmas schedule within the next couple of days. This will include our plans for Christmas Eve and New Years Eve. We have various events planned so look for the events board at the pub. Which just leaves us to wish you all a very merry Christmas and a peaceful and healthy New Year. Keith and Lesley"
Meanwhile, back to information from the CCP committee!
Having a Community Pub open in Coverdale is to the benefit of all of the residents and visitors in the Dale, as well as all of us shareholders. Your continuing support helps to keep the Foresters Arms open for everyone. Thank you.
You will be aware that Mike Hammond, Tony Jones and Nick Donovan stood down from the CCP committee and John Watson and Liz Watson were elected at the AGM in September. Tony vacated his position of Membership Secretary and John Watson has been elected to this post by your committee.
We are extremely grateful to Tony for his very hard work in transferring the data and information needed by the Membership secretary, and for the assistance of his wife Linda. We are also pleased to hear that John's wife Liz plans to help John in his task.
Please remember to inform John if you change postal address, telephone number or email address to ensure that information about the Coverdale Community Pub reaches you. lf we do not have an email address for you, please consider providing us with one as this enables us to keep stationery and postage costs down.
The CCP Management Committee wish you all the very best for Christmas, the New Year and 2016.
