As we enter this month of Christmas cheer it is time again for us look back and give thanks to all of the hard work and support that everyone has given and continues to give our community pub. Four years has passed real quickly as it does not seem two minutes since we were all lobbying the National Parks authority to overturn the planning application to save the building, to then doing all of the renovation and to welcoming Alan and Kimberley and their family as landlords of our new venture.
So much water has now gone under the bridge, many happy memories, many good and some difficult times which we have all come through as a community and our dreams of a quintessentially English country pub we had all hoped for now goes from strength to strength.
Thank you all for your support at this year’s Annual General Meeting. The fabric of the pub has not needed too much attention this year, however, we have made an investment in developing the patio area outside of the toilet block making disabled access much easier.
Our finances are in good shape and we now have a growing waiting list of people who would like to invest in the pub giving us comfort of the strength of our position going forward. In October Kimberley hosted a conference, organised by the Plunkett Foundation, giving other groups who are interested in developing community ventures the opportunity to learn first-hand of how we approached our project. It was nice for some of our committee members to be able to pass on their knowledge, albeit with a wry smile on their faces knowing full well the hard work that lay ahead of these keen and eager newbies.
Our pub has been voted one of the best pubs in Yorkshire for the last three years and if you haven’t already visited the pub website, see http://www.forestersarms-carlton.co.uk for the best ever selection of events Kimberley and Alan are laying on for the twelve days of Christmas this year. Book early to avoid disappointment.
The CCP management committee would like to thank you for your ongoing support and we hope that you all have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
