Newsletter No.5 - July 2011

We have now purchased the Foresters.

Thanks to your generosity we have now converted enough pledges to purchase the Foresters Arms. The sale has now gone through meaning that we have been able to secure the pub for the community forever.

To date we have in total converted £284,600 of pledges into cash. This leaves us £65,400 short of our £350,000 target.

The management committee are now busy preparing the plans for the renovation and the recruitment of a tenant. The closing date for tenant applications is the 12th August. If we are going to keep to our plan to re-open the pub by Christmas, just 5 months away, we have to start work as soon as possible.

We thank everyone who has so far converted their pledge into cash, but if we are going to meet our target we still need to raise the additional shortfall. To help meet our target we would be grateful if you could spread the word about our project to family and friends or, if you are able, increase your own shares. We are engaging as much media coverage as possible and we are planning to attend a number of agricultural shows across the region this summer to make as many people as possible aware of what we are doing with a view to them becoming members of the society.

At our recent public meeting we gave an undertaking, once we have taken ownership, to let everyone see inside the pub. Now we have the keys we would like to invite you to attend an open afternoon on Sunday 17th July, from 2.00pm to 5.00pm. Members of the management committee will be on hand to answer your questions and listen to any of your suggestions.

Together, we have come so far in such a short space of time. We have made a significant step forward to realising our dreams of re-opening the pub. Thank you all again for your ongoing support.

Many Thanks
