We wrote to you recently, following the National Park committee meeting held on the 12th April at which the planning permission to change the use of part of the pub was overturned. We thought that was a red letter day in our campaign, however, we now have even better news to share with you.
We are pleased to announce that we have had our offer accepted to purchase the pub.
With this, everything is beginning to fall into place. As we outlined in our last newsletter a lot of work has been underway to make sure that we are as prepared as we can be to complete the purchase. The application to the FSA for the Coverdale Community Pub Co-operative has been completed and the organisation is now in place.
We have continued to make people aware of our project and in particular we took advantage of two recent popular Dales events, the Stables open day at Middleham on Good Friday followed by the Festival of Food and Drink. Across these events we were able to make hundreds of people aware of what we are trying to do, many of whom showed a real interest when they understood more about our story and what we are trying to achieve.
Speed is now of the essence as we have to convert the pledges already made to us into funds in order that we can complete the purchase. We also have to continue to gain more support in order to raise enough money to complete the renovations and re-open the pub.
There is a lot of information about the way forward that we need you to understand and although we will shortly be making available a comprehensive ‘Opportunity Document’ that will describe everything in detail, we think that it would be very useful for us to meet to discuss the issues together.
To that end we would like to invite you to attend a meeting on Thursday 16th June, to be held in the Coverdale Memorial Hall at Carlton, starting at 8.00 p.m.
At this meeting the management committee will present to you our proposals for the way in which we intend to purchase, renovate and operate the pub. Following this you will each receive a copy of the ‘Opportunity Document’ to consider and based upon what you have heard we will then ask you, if you are willing, to convert your pledge into money by purchasing share allocations.
We can only thank you for your support so far. We have not yet raised enough money in pledges to reach our £300k+ target and therefore if you feel able to increase your support or you feel that someone else you know may be interested in becoming involved, then please let them know as every little we receive will help us reach our goal.
Our website, www.coverdalecommunitypub.co.uk, continues to grow as it is updated with more information on the story of our project together with information about how people can pledge their support and become involved.
Thank you again for all of your support so far and for any further support that you might be able to give us. We now have the opportunity to turn all of our dreams and hard work to date into reality and take ownership of the pub. If you are at all able please join us on Thursday 16th June, 8.00 p.m, to discuss the way forward.
We look forward to seeing you then.
